5 Must Do's to Stay Fit This Winter
Winter is coming but that doesn’t mean you have to start looking like Santa Claus. You shouldn’t rely on the fact that you can hide your body under multiple layers of clothing to slack off.
Instead, make it your goal to stay fit this winter.
Or, why not, work towards improving your fitness. It may be more challenging, but it’s hardly impossible.
Here are a few tips to get you started:
1. ON YOUR MARKS, GET SET, RUN!
Yes, run. It might seem counterintuitive to run during cold weather. The truth is that it’s actually better for you.
Most people hate running and cardio altogether, not to mention doing it during the hot summer months.
Well, the cold will reduce all that extra heat stress on your body. You’ll find it much easier to run without feeling like you’re about to pass out from the heat.
If you want to stay fit this winter, grab your friends, grab your sportswear and go for a jog. Or do some of the next items on the list.
2. STAY FIT THIS WINTER BY ICE-SKATING
Who said staying fit isn’t fun? If you go roller-skating during summer, you’ll have no problem skating during winter.
The best part is that you don’t have to be extremely in shape to try this out. Just don’t forget to wear some warm clothes. If you’re not exactly adept at this, you could fall down and injure yourself. Stay safe.
3. RENEW YOUR GYM MEMBERSHIP
If the cold isn’t your thing, the gym is still warm and ready for some more members. Gyms are less crowded during the winter, so a gym workout can become something to look forward to.
Of course, it’s much better to go to the gym if you can get some friends to join you.
Still, there’s always going to be some situation where you’re left to do things by yourself. You might want to read about how to stave off the mental weakness that’s keeping you from going to the gym, in that case.
4. GO OUTSIDE AND HAVE FUN
As I mentioned, trying to stay fit this winter doesn’t need to feel like boot camp.
Simply playing outside with your kids does more to burn calories than drinking cocoa and taking a nap, that’s for sure!
Having some friends or your family around will make you forget that you’re doing something to burn calories.
5. EAT BETTER (HEALTHY + FEWER CALORIES)
No, not “eat butter.” Eat better. We’re programmed to store more fat during the winter months. The solution? Eat fewer calories. Yes, counting your calories can be a headache for some. But even reducing some of the holiday sweets and juices can help out. Plus, once you’ve counted the calories for a portion of food, it sticks with you – especially if you eat regular meals.
All you need to do is stick to a schedule and stop making excuses, like blaming your genetics.
